Sacha Yacu (en español “Agua de la selva”) es un Centro de rescate y rehabilitación de animales salvajes situado en la selva en Ecuador y mantenido fundamentalmente por voluntarios de todo el mundo. Trabajamos con la Policía medioambiental (UPMA) y con el Ministerio del Ambiente en la lucha contra el maltrato y el tráfico de animales salvajes. Muchos de ellos han sido sacados ilegalmente de la naturaleza y vendidos como mascotas. Los animales salvajes no se adaptan a ser domésticos y a menudo se deprimen y/o se vuelven agresivos siendo de esta manera descuidados, abandonados en sus jaulas o encadenados a postes. Muchos de ellos se automutilan debido a este estrés o desarrollan otros problemas psicológicos.
Sacha Yacu(in English “Water from the jungle”) is a wild animal rescue and rehabilitation Centre based in the rainforest in Ecuador and mantained principally by volunteers all around the world. We work with the Environmental Police (UPMA) and the Environmental Ministry in the fight against wild animal trafficking and abuse. Many of the animals we receive have been taken out of the wild illegally and sold as domestic pets. Wild animals do not make suitable domestic pets and often they become depressed and/or aggressive and so are neglected. Abandoned to small cages or chained to posts. Many of them will then begin to self mutilate due to stress or to develop other psychological problems.
